Senior Database Migration Consultant

We are recruiting for an international technology consultancy delivering complex cloud and digital transformation projects across different industries. The company works on large-scale technology modernisation programmes, including cloud, data platforms and application development.

In this role, you will join a long-term database modernisation programme, focusing mainly on Oracle to PostgreSQL migrations. You will own significant migration work packages and hands-on production cutovers, working closely with cloud, DBA, QA, application and client teams. The project involves a large number of planned releases, requiring active support during scheduled production migration windows.

• Assess Oracle databases, schemas, objects, dependencies and workloads before migration
• Design target schemas and perform SQL, DDL and PL/SQL conversion and remediation
• Prepare and execute database migrations, including data movement and replication
• Configure, operate and monitor GCP Database Migration Service and related replication / CDC tooling
• Lead hands-on production database migrations and support planned release windows
• Prepare migration runbooks, validation plans, technical checkpoints and operational documentation
• Validate migrated data using row counts, checksums, reconciliation and other appropriate methods
• Monitor migrations, troubleshoot issues and provide technical recommendations during production cutovers
• Work across the full migration lifecycle: discovery, assessment, design, testing, rehearsal, cutover and stabilisation
• Collaborate with architects, DBAs, cloud and DevOps engineers, QA, application teams and client stakeholders
• Contribute to reusable migration scripts, patterns, runbooks and engineering standards
• Use approved AI and automation tools to support database assessment, SQL conversion, scripting, testing, troubleshooting and documentation

• Strong experience in database engineering and/or database migration
• Very good SQL skills, including troubleshooting, optimisation and validation of complex workloads
• Hands-on experience with Oracle, including database objects, schemas, PL/SQL, dependencies and performance
• Experience with Oracle to PostgreSQL migrations
• Practical experience with GCP Database Migration Service
• Knowledge of database replication / Change Data Capture (CDC) and low-downtime migration approaches
• Experience with production database migrations, cutovers and release activities
• Ability to work with detailed runbooks, validation criteria and escalation procedures
• Comfortable troubleshooting critical issues under time pressure and taking ownership during production changes
• Experience working in international projects where English is the main working language
• English at C1 level – you will work closely with UK-based teams and stakeholders
• Comfortable working outside standard business hours when required for production releases
• Experience with AI tools, coding assistants or automation in engineering is a plus

• Production release windows may last up to 24 hours, with some releases potentially requiring support for longer periods
